Behind the Bar: Matty’s Fall Cocktail

Meet Matt Helland: resident bartender at the Windsor. We sat down with him to discuss his new Fall cocktail creation and to get the dirt on all things Matty.

What are you drinking this Fall?
Twentieth Centuries – made with Old Tom gin.

What is your favorite place to imbibe and why?
Lux or Shady’s. The music is always good at both places, and they like to put work into their cocktails.

If you could eat dinner with your idols, who would they be and what would you cook?
Dudes like Andrew Reynolds, who have managed to keep doing their favorite things and make a living doing it. Pizza and wings!!!

If you were a pair of shoes, what would you be and why?
It’s a toss up between Winos and boat shoes. I have tons of both. They’re rad cuz of their versatility, from the bedroom to the ballroom. Great for all occasions!


Here’s one of my fall cocktails, it’s a riff on a classic manhattan.

2 oz. Maker’s Mark
1 oz. Cynar
1 oz. Cocchi Vermouth di Torino

Stir it. Serve ‘up’ in a chilled coupe and garnish with a brandied cherry.
