Local Lovin’ Co-Audio

You might remember Dan Lee from his recent Style Files post.  This stylish guy also creates musical masterpieces and today, we get to learn more about his band: Co-Audio!

What’s your band’s name?  Who’s who and what do you play?

Our band name is Co-Audio and there are just two of us. Dan Lee writes/produces the music, plays guitar, sings/raps and Ryan Frye plays electronic/live drums. We play Electronic Pop/Hip-Hop.

How did you meet and how did you decide to start making music together?

DAN: We met while serving at Oregano’s about three years ago. We were friends for a while before we started playing together. We played an acoustic set at a friend’s house party once, then I showed Ryan my Co-Audio project. He got really excited about it, which was what I was looking for in a band mate. Ryan mainly played in Reggae bands and I was playing with Indie Rock bands. So it was a new venture for the both of us. We found we had a really cool chemistry with this new stuff we jumped into.

What’s the craziest thing a fan has ever said to you/done to (or for) you?

DAN: Whenever I’m talking to people after shows it always blows me away when they tell me what song they liked best and why they connected to it. In college the band I was in always played this one song I wrote, and after it became popular, our friends in other bands would come on stage and play it with us and everyone in the audience would sing it so I didn’t even need to.

RYAN: The craziest thing a fan ever did is get on stage and try to take the mic, then hit the drums with his hands.

Where is your favorite place to play?  Why?

RYAN: My favorite place to play is 710 Club in Pacific Beach CA. The sound of the venue is great and a surf is easily had after the show. In Phoenix, I’d say the Sail Inn. The sound-guy there is awesome.

DAN: I once played with a 15-piece Jazz Band at the Women’s Prison in White County, AR. That was the most intense audience I’ve ever preformed for. They we’re so into it, the energy made our band soar. In Phoenix, I love playing anywhere we can because I just love to preform. I’m not really picky.

Would you rather be attacked by 50 duck-sized horses? Or one horse-sized duck?

RYAN: One horse-sized duck. It may be big but I can focus on one thing, not 50 little ones.

DAN: 50 little horses because I could just kick them all. Also, that small of a horse wouldn’t really be able to do much harm to me… Don’t forget how small ducks are, Ryan.

Anything else you’d like to share?

DAN: Yeah, we’ve got a show on June 13 at the Rogue Bar. We’re on at 11:30. Our set is high-energy sweetness. Check out www.co-audio.com to hear some tunes and find links to our Facebook page and other Interwebs locations.
